Bristol is a beautiful city full of hundreds of things to do. If you’re looking for a romantic date for Valentine’s Day in Bristol, you’re spoiled for choice. In fact, with so many choices, sometimes it’s hard to know where to start when you’re looking for ideas. To help you out, here are our top 5 choices for a romantic date in Bristol.

From budget options to something more lavish, and from intimate, romantic dates to ideas that will get you moving, this list should get you started with some ideas.

1.      Take a walk

A walk is the perfect date for people who adore nature and getting outdoors.

Even in the dead of winter there are some gorgeous places to wander in Bristol. One of our favourite spots is Leigh Woods, where you’ll find a number of walks, from gentle scenic strolls to more challenging hikes. There are even mountain bike trails if you’re looking for a truly adventurous date idea. If you’re not too afraid of heights, you can cross the Clifton Suspension Bridge to the Bristol Side, where a scenic stroll through Clifton Village offers a look at some examples of pretty Georgian architecture

If you’re hoping for some truly spectacular views, you can’t beat Clifton Down near the Suspension Bridge. At the very top of the hill, near Clifton Observatory, is one of the highest points in Bristol with stunning views of Avon Gorge and the Clifton Suspension Bridge. From there, you can walk further on to Durdham Down, a beautiful area of meadowland with some hidden secrets, such as the Gully or Peregrine Watch Point, both great places to spot some local wildlife.

2.      Visit a museum

For fans of history and learning something new every day, Bristol has an abundance of museums. Bristol Museum and Art Gallery is a great place that will keep you occupied all day, with exhibitions spanning a wide range of topics. Find local wildlife and geology, ancient Egypt, a very well-known Bristolian gorilla, and art spanning across hundreds of years, all under one roof!

Clifton Observatory houses a small museum in its tower along with a Camera Obscura on the top floor. With the name meaning ‘dark room’ in Latin, the Camera Obscura is a precursor to modern photography and the one at Clifton Observatory is almost 200 years old. Along with the museum, Clifton Observatory also provides access to the legendary Giant’s Cave, a cavern that opens up in the cliff-face approximately 250ft above Avon Gorge. With 130 steeps steps, this attraction is not for the faint hearted, but is an exciting and unusual date idea for people looking for something a little different.

3.      A cocktail-tasting experience.

At the Wellhead Bristol, an intimate waterside cocktail bar with an ever-changing seasonal menu of hand-selected drinks, you can book a unique experience for Valentine’s Day. Our team of cocktail experts will craft a romantic, love-themed cocktail menu paired with delicious truffles for you and your date to share.

For a twist on a classic drinks date, this romantic experience will be a memorable evening. Follow the Wellhead on Instagram for more details about their Valentine’s Day offer.

4.      Try a Valentine’s themed hot chocolate

Cocktail tasting isn’t for everyone, and if you’re not into alcohol, you might want to find an alternative drink for your date. The 360 café at Clifton Observatory has become known for its range of premium luxury hot chocolates. Customer favourites include the Salted Biscoff, a salted caramel flavour hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, chocolate callets, salted caramel drizzle, Biscoff crumble and a Biscoff biscuit; and the S’mores, a toasted marshmallow flavour hot chocolate topped with whipped cream, biscuit crumble, a giant toasted marshmallow, and a flake. These ridiculously indulgent hot chocs are almost a meal in themselves, and for the month of February the café will be serving a Valentine’s day strawberry-flavoured special.

A hot chocolate is the perfect warming ingredient to add to a date when the weather is still frosty – and tend to be a bit more affordable than cocktails!

5.      A candlelit dinner at Clifton Observatory

With a breathtaking windswept location atop Avon Gorge, the Observatory boasts stunning views of the Suspension Bridge. On Valentine’s day, you can enjoy a delectable three-course dinner in a gorgeous candlelit space, along with exclusive access to the rooftop terrace where you can purchase Valentine’s cocktails and take in the remarkable vistas of the Suspension Bridge at night.

A fantastic jazz duo, Rendezblues, will serenade you with soulful and mesmerising throughout the evening. Following dinner, you will be treated to coffee and indulgent chocolate truffles: the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful Valentine’s date. Find out more and book tickets here.
